This summer, my team and I will be hosting live, weekly, hour-long “code clubs” on Zoom. Interested readers will be able to sign up for their preferred day/time combination, and each club will be limited to just twenty participants. The idea is to create small communities where readers can ask questions, explore the book's main ideas, and solve its various coding challenges together.
Details below. But there will be options both on Sunday afternoons and on weekday evenings. And everyone who signs up will not only be invited to join a specific club but will also receive weekly videos and handouts from me, helping as we work our way through some of my favorite chapters and concepts.
See you this summer!
Summer Coding Clubs!

1. How will the clubs be organized?
In June, before our live meetings start, I will release a series of short videos and handouts designed to review Python basics. These materials will cover commands like print and input; control structures like if, else, for, and while; plus the basics of numeric variables, string variables, lists, arrays, and functions.
After that, the clubs will launch in earnest. Every week, I will send out a mix of videos and handouts, this time with an eye toward helping club members dig through a specific book chapter. Then, at the end of the week, we will meet in groups of 20 over Zoom to spend an hour talking about the materials, answering questions, and working on the chapter's coding challenges.
Each individual club will have its own schedule, so readers will be able to choose a pattern that works well with their other summer plans. I expect that we will have several clubs that meet on Sunday afternoons and then a few that meet on various weekday evenings. The exact schedule depends on how many people sign up and which days/times are most popular. I also will try to group participants based on age and experience, so that each club can move at a rhythm that makes sense for the members of that group.
2. When will the live meetings take place?
If you might be interested in joining, click here to fill out a short information request form. I will write back within a few days with more information.
